Standard Catalogs
For some of the items we feature, we provide a "Standard Catalog Number." These are numbers which are assigned by the publishers of stamp, coin and other reference catalogs used by collectors as a standard way to refer to certain issues. In the shorthand of stamp collecting, for example, a "Scott US C76" refers to the 10-cent U.S. First Man on the Moon Air Mail stamp issued of September 9, 1969. These standard catalogs are available at many public libraries and are available for purchase at many book shops.
Within the U.S. the most popular catalog for stamps is the "Scott" catalog, and the most popular for coins is the "Krause". Such other catalogs as "Gibbons," "Michel" and "Yvert" are published in Great Britain, Germany and France, respectively.

Standard Country/Region Codes
For clarity, we use a modified set of the International Standards Organization's (ISO) two-character Country/Region codes. Also known as digraphs, these identify all of the nations of the world. In this way, the reference to "Scott MH 581" means "Scott Standard Catalog Number, Marshall Islands, 581."
