Sir Hugh Casson British 1910 - 1999 Born in 1910, Sir Hugh Casson, CH, KCVO, PRA, RDI, was educated at
Eastborne College and St. John's College, Cambridge, England. He began a career as an architect in 1937 and in 1946 became the senior partner of Casson, Conder and Partners, an architectural
firm responsible for a number of award winning buildings in London and elsewhere. He served as Director of Architecture for the Festival of Britain and Professor of Environmental Design at the
Royal College of Art. In 1970, Casson was elected to the Royal Academy and, in 1976, was elected President of that prestigious institution. He was also a member of the Royal Fine Art Commission,
the Royal Mint Advisory Committee, the National Trust Executive Council and the G.I.C. Historic Buildings Board. Casson published and illustrated several books on architectural design, including
Sights of London, Victorian Architecture, and Inscape: The Design of Interior and Spirit of the Age. |
