Issue Date: March 9, 2013

No Picture Available

On March 9, 2013, the Marshall Islands Postal Service issues ten new stamps featuring Birds of the World: the second issue in a series. The Hadada Ibis has an almost entirely olive-gray plumage. The White-faced Whistling Duck owes its name to its striking white face and characteristic three-note whistle. The Scarlet Ibis is a long-legged wading bird closely related to flamingos and pelicans. The Fulvous Tree Duck is known for the whirring sound made by its wings. The Knob-billed Goose is named for the leaf-shaped caruncle positioned atop the male's bill. The Egyptian Goose sports patches of chestnut-colored feathers around each eye. The Baikal Teal breeds in central and eastern Siberia and winters in southern Siberia. Unlike most penguins, the Humboldt's Penguin is found almost solely along the coast of South America. The Whooping Crane, once frequently sighted across North America, was for decades hunted for its long white feathers. The Red-breasted Goose wears a striking plumage containing black, white and rusty red.
