On June 18, 2012, the Marshall Islands Postal Service issues ten new stamps featuring Birds of the Pacific. Some of the loveliest birds in the entire world can be found in the Pacific. The 2012 Republic of the Marshall Islands Birds of the Pacific Issue celebrates some of the most colorful of these birds: the Masked Woodswallow, well known for its insect-hunting qualities; the Golden-shouldered Parrot, often found in mangrove forests; the Regent Bowerbird, common in upland rainforests; the King Parrot, endemic to coastal woodlands; the Rainbow Pitta, which prefers more isolated areas such as rainforests and mangrove forests; the Rainbow Bee-eater, which caneat dangerous insects such as bees, wasps and hornets; the White-tailed Kingfisher, which can catch only the smallest fish; the Spotted Catbird, famous for its distinctive and sometimes eerie cat-like calls; and the Western Magpie, which lives in groups of two to twenty-four individuals.
