On March 26, 2012, the Marshall Islands Postal Service issued six new stamps featuring Inuits. Today's Inuits live in towns, wear modern clothes, eat store-bought foods, and ride in airplanes and snowmobiles instead of dogsleds, but the Inuit community of yesterday encompassed a way of life separate from the rest of the world. In those days, Inuits of different regions divided into colonies that may have included from one family up to several hundred people. In winter, several of these colonies joined together to hunt seals in northern Canada, but as spring approached they again split up. They donned ivory goggles with tiny visual slits to protect against snowblindness. With heavy packs, the people wandered on foot seeking a home where the fish and game were plentiful. Through their inventions, the Inuit achieved a comfort and speed in mobility which is still present today.
