Since ancient times, the eagle has been a symbol of power and strength, its likeness gracing everything from Greek and Roman medals to the Great Seal of the United States. The many types of eagles all share several characteristics, including large, heavy beaks and strong feet boasting powerful curved talons. Known for their monogamy, eagles mate for life and return to the same nest year after year, which they usually build in inaccessible places far from the reach of most predators. The Eagles of the World stamps issued by the Republic of the Marshall Islands feature eight of the world's most majestic eagle species: the Philippine Eagle, the Tawny Eagle, the Martial Eagle, the Bald Eagle, the African Fish Eagle, the Bateleur Eagle, the Golden Eagle and the Harpy Eagle.
