On October 1, 2008, the Marshall Islands Postal Service issued 10 new stamps celebrating Space Exploration. For countless centuries, mankind has gazed with awe and wonder into the shimmering heavens and dreamed of traveling through the great expanses of outer space to discover the secrets which exist far beyond our own planet. To assist humanity in its quest to explore the universe, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) was established by the United States on July 29, 1958, by the National Aeronautics and Space Act. In 1969, NASA's Apollo program landed the first man on the Moon. Later unmanned programs such as Pioneer, Mariner, Viking and Voyager explored other planets in our solar system. NASA also developed the Landsat program to collect a wealth of data about our galaxy's most important celestial body of all: Earth. Featuring artwork by world famous artist and U.S. stamp designer Howard Koslow, the stamps depict 10 spacecraft sent by the United States to explore our universe.
