On January 15, 2008, the Marshall Islands Postal Service issued 25 new stamps featuring Bouquets of the World. "Habits and customs differ, but all people have the love of flowers in common." Taken from a Chinese proverb, this sentiment fittingly conveys the enduring popularity flowers have held throughout the ages and across the globe. Steeped in symbolism, floral tributes are presented during every stage of life: from welcoming a newborn baby to comforting a grieving family, they are given and received by people everywhere. Yet it is perhaps the gardener who feels the strongest bond with these delightful plants. Hours spent tilling soil, sowing seeds in the ground and tending to the new life after it emerges from the earth provide a sense of satisfaction like no other. As Thomas Jefferson said, "But though an old man, I am but a young gardener."
