On June 25, 2007, the Marshall Islands Postal Service issued four new stamps to honor the 100th Anniversary of the Scouting Movement. A worldwide movement dedicated to encouraging the physical, mental and spiritual development of young people, Scouting began in 1907 when Robert Baden-Powell, Lieutenant General in the British Army, held the first Scouting encampment at Brownsea Island in England for 20 boys from a variety of backgrounds. Following the camp's success, Baden-Powell published the widely-read "Scouting for Boys", and the Scouting Movement was born. A century later, the movement boasts over 28 million members in 216 countries. The two largest umbrella organizations are the World Organization of the Scout Movement and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The stamp designs salute some of the most important themes of the scouting tradition: Helping Others, Physically Strong, Mentally Awake, and Fun and Adventure.
