On April 9, 2007, the Marshall Islands Postal Service will issue four new stamps featuring Dolphins. Among the diverse species of marine life that inhabit the tropical waters of the Marshall Islands, the dolphin belongs to the Delphinidae family, which also includes killer whales and pilot whales. This aquatic mammal is identified by its sleek, smooth body and breathes through a blowhole on top of its head, swimming to the surface for air about every two minutes. Known for its grace, intelligence and playfulness, the dolphin is a social animal that often travels and hunts in groups. Within these groups, or pods, dolphins communicate with one another with squeals, grunts and trills, as well as physical motions like leaping, head-butting and smacking their tails against the water. The stamp designs are based on dramatic photographs of four dolphin species in their natural habitats: Spotter Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin, Risso's Dolphin and Common Dolphin.
