On February 19, 2007, the Marshall Islands Postal Service celebrates the Chinese New Year with a $1 stamp Souvenir Sheet marking the Year of the Pig. The Chinese Lunar Calendar is made up of five cycles of 12 years each, with each year represented by a different animal -- Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. According to legend, the animal that rules the year in which a person is born has a profound influence on that individual's personality. Those born in the Year of the Pig (1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007) are honest, affectionate, supportive and are recognized as having a lively and warmhearted disposition. Tolerant and peaceful, the Pig does not often fight; however, he will rise to the occasion in defense of himself or loved ones. A dreamer, yet intelligent, the Pig is optimistic, hoping to find the best in people. The best careers for the Pig include researcher, scientist, garden or landscape artist, writer, librarian and social worker. Featuring artwork by noted artist Yan Bingwu, the stamp shows an endearing image of a colorful, seemingly gleeful pig with large, expressive eyes. The stamp is presented in a Souvenir Sheet with a decorative border.
