On August 24, 2006, the Marshall Islands Postal Service issues its seventh -- and final -- set of stamps marking the 200th Anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

On May 14, 1804, Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery embarked upon one of the most remarkable endeavors in American history: an expedition exploring the uncharted West all the way to the Pacific. Leaving from Saint Charles, Missouri, the Corps traveled over 4,000 miles, reaching its Pacific destination on November 24, 1805, and returning to St. Louis on September 23, 1806.

The two new stamps, designed by world-renowned artists Paul and Chris Calle, depict key events in the final days of the Expedition: Leaving Sacagawea and Charbonneau: Lewis and Clark bid farewell to their interpreter Toussaint Charbonneau, his wife Sacagawea and their son Jean Baptiste, whom Clark had fondly named "Pompy" and referred to as his "little dancing boy."

Return to St. Louis: At noon on September 23, 1806, the Corps of Discovery returned to St. Louis. The explorers fired their weapons as a salute to the town and were greeted with cheers from the citizens lining the waterfront to welcome the travelers.
