On January 7, 2001, the Marshall Islands Postal Service launched its new definitive series Great Marshallese, with four stamps reflecting the forthcoming rate change.

One of the most beautiful regions in the Central Pacific, the Republic of the Marshall Islands has a distinct and illustrious history. Honored and esteemed politicians, government leaders, educators, businessmen and humanitarians have generously contributed their unique talents and skills to improve their communities and to help the Marshall Islands achieve independence and international recognition.

Designed by renowned artist Chris Calle, this stamp features a handsome portrait of esteemed and honored citizen Amata Kabua, President and Statesman.
