Basil Smith: Lubombo Flat Lizard The lizards of Swaziland can be found in a multitude of colors, shapes and sizes. Lizards perform a vital function by devouring thousands of harmful insects. The large Monitor lizards eat rats and mice. Occurring in the Lubombo Mountains in eastern Swaziland, the male Lubombo Flat lizard is a magnificently-colored specimen. By comparison, the striped female is dully colored. This painting originally appeared on the Fleetwood® First Day Cover of the Swaziland 20c Lubombo Flat Lizard stamp issued February 25, 1992.
