Basil Smith: Black-lipped Cobra
Hot, humid jungles compose the habitat of the Black-lipped Cobra, one of many species of cobras found throughout Africa. Like all Cobras, the Black-lipped is renowned for the elaborate display of its hood when threatened. Raising the hood is a sign that the snake could strike at any time, although the first strike is usually a bluff. The Black-lipped Cobra will lay as many as forty eggs.
