Gene Jarvis: Czechoslovakia/Edible Frog The Edible frog Rana Esculenta is widespread throughout Europe at lower altitudes, isolated populations in central Scandinavia. Absent on the Iberian and Italian peninsula and in the southern Balkans. This frog is usually very spotted, with light vertebral stripe. Frogs are extremely voracious and will do crazy things just to get a bite to eat, such as sudden high jumps, or sneaking through the water. They have a very long, sticky tongue. They mainly catch flying insects. They also like damsel flies, which they catch by surprise.
