Leonora Box: Flowers of the Solomon Islands This lovely wedding bouquet bears ribbons in the official colors of the Solomon Islands. Seven orchid blossoms native to the Solomon Islands compose the bouquet. Few flowers have captured man's romantic fancy as has the lovely Dendrobium johnsoniae. Red-breasted honey eaters feast on the small, beautiful Dendrobium lawesii orchid. The Dendrobium gumnecostatum prefers mountainous regions for its home. The small Dendrobium cuthbertsoni orchid grows at high altitudes among mosses. The tree-perching Dendrobium punamense orchids are popular in greenhouses everywhere. The Dendrobium spectabile has heavily veined petals, veiled in bright orange-yellow, which grow to three inches across. Once collected by American soldiers, the Dendrobium gouldii orchid wears different colors on different islands.
