Leonora Box: Flowers of Fiji This beautiful wedding bouquet bears ribbons in the official colors of Fiji and eight flowers from that 322-island nation. The Medinella waterhousei is perhaps Fiji's most characteristic flower, this lovely climber was discovered by European explorers in 1859. The Marasa tree flowers profusely only after a dry season. The Paphia vitiensis is uncommon and was first collected near the summit of Mount Voma. The Vanda sanderiana is one of the many types of orchids which grow on Fiji. The formidably named flower Chroniochilus godeffroyanus is known locally by the more melodic word "Turulakaka." Lindeniana vitensis is a common tree on the islands going by the name of "Boreniwai." The Alstonia vitiensis is a tropical tree often used for outdoor planting in warmer climates. Finally, the Hibiscus is promoted each year at the Fijian capital with a Hibiscus festival.
