Basil Smith: Loggerhead Turtle
Second in size only to the great Leatherback, the Loggerhead Turtle typically reaches a length of three feet and a weight of 300 pounds. It has been spotted in open ocean, as far as 500 miles from land, traveling at a steady pace. Yet when captive, the Loggerhead exhibits aggressive, territorial behavior. The turtle will select a spot in its enclosure and forcefully lunge at any intruders foolish enough to stray too close to its domain.
