Basil Smith: Green Turtle One of the largest of the sea turtles with specimens weighing as much as four hundred fifty pounds, the Green Turtle is found in tropical seas. Actually brown in color, the Green Turtle is named for its greenish-hued fat. Algae, the principal staple in the turtle's diet, gives the fat its color. Since the turtle is highly prized for its flesh and its eggs, it has been heavily impacted by human predation.
