Shannon Stirnweis: Grenville Clark From the gallant colonists who fought for freedom ... to the fearless explorers who pushed back the boundaries of the wilderness frontiers ... to the inspiring leaders of today ... America is a land built by dedicated men and women. In recognition of the courageous people who have built America into the great nation and world power it is today, the United States Postal Service began the Great American Stamp Series in 1980. In 1985, America honored one of this country's greatest advocates of world peace -- Grenville Clark -- as part of the Great American Stamp Series. Grenville Clark was a strong advocate of not only world peace but civil liberties as well. Having studied law and politics at Harvard, Clark believed in promoting peace through the political theory of federalism. He authored two books on this subject during the 1950s -- A Plan for Peace and World Peace Through World Law. Today, Clark's ideals for world peace continue to be promoted through the Grenville Clark Fund at Dartmouth College.
