Stanley Paine: Falcon 50, HB-IES
The Falcon 50 is an excellent example of the high class executive aircraft -- fast, efficient and expensive. Plans for the construction of this business jet were laid in 1974. The plane was to be based upon the Falcon 20 air frame, but with a three-engine layout and improved wing design. It was also to have increased baggage and fuel capacities. The Falcon 50 made its first public debut at the Paris Air Show in June 1977. In October 1977, the plane appeared again at the U.S. National Business Aircraft Associations convention in the United States. Another early Falcon 50 established a record in September 1978 for the Chicago-Paris flight in eighty hours and thirty minutes. Since that time, the Falcon 50 tri-jet has been sold widely, mainly in the United States. It seats eight passengers and has a crew of two. International flight regulations state that all aircraft must display the national flag or state arms of the country of registration. The national colors and the crown of the Principality of Liechtenstein's state arms can plainly be seen on the tail plane of the aircraft in this artwork.
