Fritz Wegner: Angel and Shepherds And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:8-11). The Judean hills, where an angel appeared to the frightened shepherds so many years ago, have changed with the times. Today, the expanding city of Bethlehem covers the fields where the shepherds once tended their flocks. But, through the centuries, The Story of Christmas has remained the same. From Bethlehem to Nazareth, from Galilee to Cana the events and miracles associated with the life of Christ were witnessed, remembered, and retold for generations to come. Perhaps in the interests of history, Luke recorded the legends previously passed to younger generations by word of mouth. His writings portray more than a human drama. They tell the history of a career that transcended the human and transformed men's souls. And it all began with the traditional Christmas story, part of which is related in the above quote from the King James Bible.
