Fritz Wegner: Pegasus the Constellation In Greek mythology, Pegasus was the flying horse which arose from the blood of Medusa after Perseus killed her. Pegasus was tamed by Bellerophon, whose successes against monsters and enemies had gone to his head. When Bellerophon decided to ride Pegasus up to Olympus, the gods were offended, so Zeus sent a gadfly to sting Pegasus. Pegasus reared in pain, causing Bellerophon to topple off. Bellerophon was lamed and blinded, but Pegasus continued to climb Olympus, and earned a place among the stars as a constellation.
