Michael Warren: Black Noddy The Black Noddy is extremely rare in North America, although some may be seen with Brown Noddies at Dry Tortugas, Florida. It usually breeds worldwide in the tropics. About 13 inches long, with a white cap and dark brown or black body, this bird is similar to the Brown Noddy. However, the Black Noddy is smaller, has a more slender bill and a more sharply defined cap. With its strong, erratic flight, this bird catches fish as it flies along the surface of the water. It does not dive or alight on the water, but perches on floating debris and nests on small islands.
