Fritz Wegner: Eridanus the Constellation The River Eridanus divides the Northern and Southern celestial hemispheres. Classic mythology located Eridanus as the spot where the Argonauts secured the golden fleece. Others identified Eridanus with the fabled stream girding the known world and flowing into the endless ocean, thus it was first known as Oceanus, or the River of the Ocean.
