Fritz Wegner: Centaurus the Constellation
In Greek mythology, the centaur's origins lay in the unlawful passion of Ixion of Thessaly for the goddess Hera. Zeus observed this and fashioned a false Hera from a cloud. When she appeared, Ixion was taken by her beauty. He pledged his love, but was caught by Zeus. His punishment was ordered, but Zeus apparently forgot to do anything about the cloud woman, Nephele, who continued to exist. She gave birth to a son, Centaurus. This son mated with the mares of Thessaly and brought into being the centaurus, the strange creatures who were men to the waist, and horses from the waist down.
