Kristin Rosenberg: Flowers of the Bahamas The flowers of the Bahamas form this floral bouquet, while the decorative ribbons represent the Bahamas' national colors. From South America, the brilliantly-colored Amaryllis with its graceful trumpets has become a great favorite throughout the world. When in bloom, the beautiful Cup of Gold is covered with golden bell-shaped flowers. It is often grown near unsightly buildings to offset their appearance. The uniquely shaped flowers of the Anthurium come in many color variations. Some may even have bi-colored leaves. The exquisite Cattleya Orchid has been produced to develop every color of the rainbow. The beautiful scarlet leaves of the Bougainvillea have often been mistaken as cascades of flowers. The center of the tropical jungle plant, Vriesea splendens, is shaped like a vase and is used to collect water. Smaller than its white-blossomed relative, the pretty Yellow Calla Lily is a great favorite in the Bahamas.
