Kristin Rosenberg: Flowers of Gibraltar
The flowers of Gibraltar form this floral bouquet, while the decorative ribbons represent Gibraltar's national colors. One of the most beautiful plants in the Mediterranean area, the Anemone coronaria produces flowers of various colors. Purple and pink blossoms are shown in this painting. The Virgin's Bower is a climbing or scrambling plant. A member of the Clematis family, it thrives in rocky places. The large leaves of the Tree Mallow have a wooly green undersurface and provide an interesting setting for the large flowers. The Yellow-horned Poppy flourishes near the sea. The dried yellow flowers of the spiny, biennial Flat-topped Cowline Thistle make an attractive centerpiece. The flowers of the pretty and petite Barbary Nut Iris vary in size. The deep purple Iris filifolia thrives in sandy areas. Arid wastelands provide a suitable home for the slender, climbing perennial, Mallow-leaved Bindweed.
