Kristin Rosenberg: Flowers of Anguilla The flowers of Anguilla form this floral bouquet, while the decorative ribbons represent Anguilla's national colors. The beautiful Hibiscus is also known as a Shoe-Flower because its fallen blossoms are used to shine black shoes. Seen throughout the island, the unique Banana plant has an unusual flower which matures into a hand of bananas. The Rain tree spreads its limbs up to fifty feet. During rainy weather the tree's leaves close in, enabling rain to come through to the ground. With its bright red leaves set off against the lower dark green ones, the Poinsettia is a favorite at Christmastime throughout the world. The Bougainvillea has bright cascades of brilliantly colored leaves which conceal tiny blossoms. There are very few places one can go in the West Indies without seeing the tail plumes of the Sugar Cane.
