The tropical islands and atolls that comprise the Federated States of Micronesia host a multitude of migrant bird species, each with its own unique characteristics. An attractive bird, the Oriental Cuckoo makes a stopover in Yap during its migration cycle. This creature is distinguished by a white belly that is dramatically barred with dark gray.

This painting originally appeared on the Federated States of Micronesia 29¢ Oriental Cuckoo stamp issued October 20, 1994.
