The attractive Parnassius Apollo can be found in the mountains of Europe, Asia and western North America. It flies at sub-alpine levels from 2,500 to 6,000 feet in the Alps and Pyrenees, and at lower altitudes in northern Europe. From forested regions up to the tundra, different local races have evolved on each mountain system to survive the variety of climates and conditions.
