The portraits are surrounded, clockwise from top left, by the number "'37," representing 1837, the year Victoria ascended to the throne at the age of eighteen; a "V" for Victoria; the number "'01," representing 1901, the end of Victoria's reign; an "R" symbolic of the reigning queen; and in the center, a British flag, commonly referred to as "The Union Jack."
