This artwork depicts four portraits of Queen Victoria spanning the sixty five years of her reign. The portraits are surrounded, clockwise from top left, by the number "'37," representing 1837, the year Victoria ascended to the throne at the age of eighteen; a "V" for Victoria; the number "'01," representing 1901, the end of Victoria's reign; an "R" symbolic of the reigning queen; and in the center, a British flag, commonly referred to as "The Union Jack."

This painting was originally published on the Fleetwood® First Day Combination Cover of the Great Britain Victorian Britain stamp set issued September 8, 1987.
